I’ve used Distill for years as an addon, but only download the desktop app today. The desktop app seems to use its own browser, which is fine for selections but can be inconvenient for notifications. My standard browser has my addresses saved, credit cards saved, accounts logged in to, so it’s much easier to complete the checkout process once the monitor triggers.
How can I get the desktop app monitor to ran the checks in the desktop app, but to pop up my browser of choice once triggered?
the desktop app is currently designed to open the monitored pages with the app. but it does make sense in cases like yours to open the page in the default browser on the computer.
will a button in the app’s browser that lets you open the page in the default browser help?
I currently have to copy the link, then paste it in the other browser, so a button to simplify this would be convenient for sure. The button might even be better than automatic opening, so I can choose which tabs to open in the other browser, and which to just close after looking at the changes.
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for your hard‑working development efforts, which have made internet users’ lives better.
However, the current design is somewhat unreasonable… Users should not have to open content via the desktop version first and then jump from an internal webpage of the desktop version to their default browser for browsing.
Of course, I am not denying that all webpages should not be opened through the browser page of the desktop version, as many webpages require users to stay logged in to access information. Nevertheless, some webpages are flooded with excessive advertisements and pop‑ups, and the desktop version currently cannot deliver the effects achievable through the customisation features of users’ default browsers.
Therefore, I earnestly request the developers to provide a button or default setting that allows users to directly open update information in their default browser with one click, instead of opening it via the desktop application.
@MingHanShan Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and for taking the time to explain your concerns in detail. We genuinely appreciate it.
We understand your point regarding the current Desktop App browsing flow and the limitations of the built-in browser, especially for users who rely on custom browser configurations, extensions, ad blockers, popup controls, and existing authenticated sessions in their default browser.
At the moment, we are actively working on replacing the current built-in browser used in the Desktop App with the Google Chrome browser engine. This change is expected to resolve many of the issues you mentioned and improve overall compatibility and browsing behavior significantly.
Additionally, the existing feature to open webpages in the system’s default browser will also be implemented within the new Chrome-based browser environment, which should make the workflow much smoother and more flexible for users.
Thank you again for the constructive feedback. Comments like yours are genuinely helpful in guiding future improvements.
Thanks for the detailed response, appreciate the transparency. Good to hear the Chrome-based update is in progress, that should really help improve the overall experience.
