iOS 3.10 version of the app no longer working

Hello community!

My iPhone can only support the 3.10 version of the app, it used to work great but it stopped all functionality the 3rd of October to be precise. The dashboard stopped updating the informations and toggling the on/off buttons didn’t impact the monitors anymore. I tried removing the program and reinstalling it but now I can’t even log in, nothing happens when I tap the button after filling the username/password fields.

Any chance this could be fixed? It’s an extremely useful app when I’m away from the computer!

Thank you!

@osmose what phone and ios version are you using?

@ajitk iPhone SE on iOS 16.2. I’ve been using the app everyday for the last ten months and it worked perfectly up to last week.

is it the 3rd generation that can be upgraded to ios 18?

it should work even now. are background services have been backward compatible with much older version of mobile and desktop apps.

any idea if something changed on the device that could affect the app?

@ajitk I would upgrade iOS and even the iPhone model if I could, but Apple implemented agressive temporal dithering starting around iOS 16.5 and 16.2 is the last version my eyes agree with. Anything newer than 16.2 and I cannot look at the screen anymore so I’m stuck with this setup.

Nothing changed on my phone, it’s the only app I use along with the browser, and as said no update for years now. I shut it off and reboot it once a week to clear cache, that’s all.

To be precise, when I try to log in now, when I tap on the green SIGN IN button after filling the fields, the loading spinner appears for barely a second, lights up the two first bars and then immediately vanishes.

From my point of view it’s the communication between the app and the server that is failing, the app seems to still be sending its requests as usual… any update on your side being rolled up in date of the 3rd of October?

(If it’s of any help I just tried signing in with Google SSO and got the exact same behavior)

from what i can see, no new api updates have been released in october. even if changes are made, we make them in a backward compatible manner so that older clients will continue to work for a foreseeable future. that makes this issue even more intriguing.

i am searching distill’s api logs for requests sent by devcies using iso 16.2 to see what could be happening. there are logs from other users’ devices that are able to sync data. but i haven’t seen receive any api request from an iphone se. this indicates that the app on your device was not able to send request to distill at all. any thoughts on this?

we are also looking into a new update to see we could let users install the latest version of the app on ios 16.2 (current minimum supported ios version is 16.6).

Thanks, as said, there’s been absolutely no change here. Same phone, same 5G operator for years, no updates no new installs recently. My setup is very plain as explained. Do you see in your logs my phone requests up to the 3rd of October and then it suddenly stopped? Perhaps it would be useful to pinpoint precisely the timing, I used the app daily before that so something must have happened at that precise moment.

Just tried with WiFi to rule out any possibility but the issue remains. Could there be some sort of firewall issue on your server or something similar, leaving me completely out and not showing up in logs for this reason?

Edit: For what it’s worth I just ran the details into ChatGPT, it says intermediate iOS builds are known to display different WebKit and TLS behavior, and backend or dependency changes can produce such issues even though other versions including older ones still perform correctly. I have no idea what this means but I figured I’d share, my computer skills end here.

Thanks!

Hi @osmose,

Thank you for pointing out the issue. After investigating, we found that one of the external dependencies we use in our app has dropped support for the version you’re currently on.

The good news is that, as a valued user, you won’t have to stop using your preferred iOS version and will be able use all the good features you missed in the last releases. We’ll be releasing a new version of the app shortly with support extending to iOS 16.2.

We’ll update you here once the release is live. Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Hi @emmanuelbiju

Thanks for your support, that’s lovely to hear.

I’ll be looking forward to the updated app, thanks for keeping me posted!

Cheers

Hi @osmose,

A happy news for you! The awaited updated is available in the app store and it is supported on iOS > 16.0. Please install the latest update and let us know if there is anything more than we can do for you. Thank you once again.

Hi @emmanuelbiju,

Thank you, that’s lovely to hear. Unfortunately it still doesn’t work on my side. It won’t log in but there’s a slight change, the loader displays a bit longer and lights up to four bars when it would vanish noticeably quicker before and only light up two bars max… if that has any significance for your analysis.

Thank you

Hi @osmose
Thank you for notifying the issue. Were you able to install the latest version?

Hi @emmanuelbiju

Absolutely, I desinstalled and reinstalled a few times in case that would help, tried looking up if there were any remaining files, rebooting the device etc but nothing changed. The spinner is back to loading up only to two bars now.

This said the build number only appears after logging in so I cannot confirm this is the updated version. But I can see the update being mentioned in the history on the listing page on the App Store so if it’s the file they have in store it’s the one I have on my device I guess.

Thank you!

Hi @osmose
Can you try updating to the latest version of our app v3.12.8. and try logging in to it. If this is also not working for you, we can connect personally to sort out the issue for you.

Hi @emmanuelbiju

It’s fixed! Just installed the new build and successfully logged in, hurray!

Thanks for your support, all the best
