Distill's desktop app VS Browser Extensions

Which is more powerful when it comes to frequency of checks? I know based on the pricing page that the browser extension’s minimum check interval is 5 seconds, but I couldn’t find any information concerning frequency for the desktop app.

Secondly, which is the better option for someone running on a low-end PC (8 GB of RAM) with Windows 10? I would like to know which option has lower memory usage on my device.

the main benefit of the desktop app over the extensions is that it doesn’t use the tabs for checks. as a result it doesn’t affect the main browsing experience. another is that some websites do not load unless a tab is active. so they don’t work in chrome. but they work using the desktop app.

the minimum check interval is 5 seconds for all local monitors (extension and desktop app).

which is the better option for someone running on a low-end PC (8 GB of RAM) with Windows 10?

it could be either depending on the website being monitored. try them out and see what works best for you.

@ajitk - Your desktop app is a good option, but not always. In my case, I monitor 5 websites with a CDN cache, and the only way to bypass it is adding keywords to the URL. Sadly your app can’t bypass the cache of websites. So that’s why I need to stay with Chrome, using an extension that adds random numbers to the URL so it could bypass that cache.

It would be great if you can add that feature in the future.

thanks for the feedback. we will prioritize this feature in the desktop app. cheers!
