I just installed the Chrome extension and created the monitor. It is set to check every 1 minute. I can see it opens the tab every minute, says “Checking” and then closes the tab. However, the log always generates an error:
TIMEOUT: No snapshot found for this check
hi @unimatter - the timeout error is encountered when distill isn’t able to get load the page and get the content from the page within the timeout period. when using the browser extension for checks, it can be affected by the browser’s settings.
as a test, can you try running it in cloud and see if that works? you can also use the desktop. some pages that timeout can work better using the desktop app. thanks!
It does work in the cloud, but I’d like to use the extension for more frequent checks. I don’t understand the timeout, I can see the page fully load immediately when it opens the tab. Perhaps the extension just does not work? I do not want to install the desktop app, it’s a work laptop and that’s against policy. Thanks for the tips.
it should work for more sites. majority of our users use the extension.
do you recall changing any of the extension’s settings? for example, were any permissions restricted that could prevent it from reading the monitored tab’s content?
No settings change for the extension or browser. I just installed the extension and created the monitor right away. I just created another monitor for a simple static html page. Same timeout problem happens. It opens the tab, status says “Checking” for a while (perhaps a minute), then the timeout error is logged.
that sounds interesting. what do you see under the extensions details? here is what does the extension details show on the chrome’s extensions page? check out what permissions site access should look like:
My permissions match your screenshot. One difference is my version is 3.10.26, yours is higher. I just installed it yesterday, and the Chrome web store shows the latest is 3.10.26.
thanks for the update and help debug this. 3.10.26 is the latest public version. i have a newer version for testing. it shouldn’t matter in this case.
i am wondering what else could be different. do you have firefox to test?
I don’t have firefox, but I tried it on a different computer and it worked. Difference is the first one where it doesn’t work is Win11, the 2nd where it works is Win10. I have another Win11 system I can try it on in a few days to test Win11 further. Does it work for you on Win11?
it works on win11 for me. there is something that is preventing distill from accessing the tab’s content on that chrome/os. can you create a new chrome profile on your win11 and test it out? if the new profile works, the problem can then be isolated to the original profile. if the new profile doesn’t work, then it could be a system wide setting that is affecting this.
let me know what you find out. thanks!
