Ugh - the new version of the webpage element selector in the desktop app is so much worse. It used to be one click to get into it - now it’s Open button, Go button, and then Gear button to show the selection settings. The embedded browser is sluggish compared to the old pop-out one. Unless you click the Maximize button (which doesn’t maximize to the full screen size), you’re dealing with two vertical scroll bars. And at least on my machine, it’s inconsistent whether it correctly displays pre-existing element selections, or even shows the whole webpage.
Is it possible to roll back to a desktop app version prior to this new element selector, and prevent upgrades until the bugs are worked out?
i suspect that you have opened the web app’s watchlist.
web app’s visual selector creates and uses a remote browser that runs on a server. that is different from the extensions’ and the desktop app’s visual selector that uses a local browser. the difference in their speed is usually 2-3x.
can you double check the device name that is displayed under the “Watchlist” title in top left corner?
Thanks for the reply. Looks like you’re right… I was able to reproduce what happened:
I was poking around in the desktop app’s settings, and I clicked the “Log Out” button, just out of curiosity. It logged me out, and then brought up a user/password screen. So I logged back in. At which point, the device name under “Watchlist” said Cloud something-or-other. Closing the window and re-opening it from the distill systray icon seems to have reverted it to Desktop.
I’m a bit confused as to why this is a feature - is there a case where you’d want to see an almost identical interface in the desktop app that’s not actually running locally? Maybe I’m just not clear on the workflow with multiple devices, since I only use the desktop app, and only on one machine.
But anyway I’m glad I’ve got the old visual selector back. Sorry for the user error, and thanks for the quick reply!
