About local monitors, cookies and containers

Hi,

I’m using Distill Flexi plan to monitor websites locally on firefox browsers. Recently I’ve encountered cookies related issues where some websites block the browser when multiple tabs are opened that share the same cookies (regardless of IP rotation).

I noticed I can avoid these blocks if I manually continuously clear the cookies and browsing data (ctrl+shift+del) on the local browser so that when Distill extension opens new minitabs to run monitors, they don’t get blocked.

Obviously I can’t be manually clearing the cookies constantly so I was trying to figure out a way to either automatically do this repeatedly or even better, have tabs open in containers that would be isolated. I tried some browser extensions (for example multi-account containers) but it seems that the Distill generated minitabs are not getting opened in these containers.

My very crude solution currently is to have an autohotkey script continuously deleting browser data, but I was wondering if there is a better way to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

have you tried using an extension to delete the cookies automatically? here is one that you could try: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookie-autodelete/

I tried multiple extensions, including this one, but it seems that either the Distill generated “minitabs” are not treated the same as regular tabs by these extensions or new “minitabs” constantly opening on the same domain in the browser keep the cookies alive and the cookie-clearing extensions don’t understand that the auto-clearing should initiate.

Either way, manually clearing browsing data instantly unlocks the sites (for a short time until needs to be repeated) while these extensions seem to do nothing and the local monitors keep trying to run on a blocked page.

If you got any other suggestions I’d be happy to hear them! (Or if a feature could be added right into Distill extension that would be great)

the feature to clear cookies will require distill to ask for more permissions. this is usually discourage by addon stores. we can consider having this option in the desktop app though where we have full control over available features.

firefox has an inbuilt settings that prevents saving cookies and site data. have you tried that out?
