check out: Why do browser extensions open a new tab for checks? – Distill
key insights are:
- page that need javascript need to be opened in a browser’s tab to be checked for changes.
- javascript can be disabled if the page is static.
- there is a setting to open dynamic pages in sticky window that is less distracting for new users.
- desktop app is a great alternative where checks happen in an invisible window for dynamic pages.
edit: i misunderstood the following:
distill can’t open tabs for checks once it has been disabled or uninstalled. existing tabs that were opened in the past could have remained open but new tabs can’t be created. does that make sense?
